Melissa Antonio is an award winning Acoma potter. She was born at Acoma Pueblo in 1965. Her mother is Lillie Concho who was also a famous Acoma potter.Her mother taught Melissa at the age of 12 how to gather the clay, form the pots without a wheel by coiling and scraping by hand into the beautiful balanced shapes. Also she was taught how to get the natural mineral paints and clay slips. Finally using a blade of the yucca cactus as a brush, she does some of the most incredible and intricate Fineline painting. She recently won a blue ribbon at an Arizona Indian Art Show.
She is truly one of the top Acoma potters of today. She signs her pottery “M.C. Antonio, Acoma”
