The Navajo (Diné) Nation covers over 27,000 square miles in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. It is the second largest Indigenous tribe in the United States with over 300,000 tribal members. The Diné have been rooted in the Southwest for over a thousand years. They are an Athabascan people, having ancient ancestors who originally migrated over the Bering Strait from Asia. Silversmithing and Rug Weaving are extremely important traditions to Navajo culture. The Navajos were the first tribe in the Southwest to learn silversmithing techniques in the late 1800s. Squash Blossom Necklaces and Concha Belts are the most iconic forms Navajo silversmithing.
