Lapis

(Na,Ca)₈Al₆Si₆O₂₄ (S,SO)₄

Lapis Lazuli is a semi-precious stone known for its beautiful dark blue color. Lapis contains a combination of minerals such as Lazurite, Calcite, Sodalite, and Pyrite. Lapis has the distinction of being used by humans in some of the earliest examples of lapidary work and jewelry. It can even be seen in the funeral mask of Tutankhamun (1341-1323 BCE) in Ancient Egypt. Afghanistan and South America are currently the largest producers of Lapis. In the United States, there are Lapis mines in Colorado and California.
