Le design Wide Ruins a commencé dans les années 1920-30 et continue d'être tissé aujourd'hui. À l'origine, ces styles étaient un effort pour faire revivre les motifs de couvertures à bandes et préserver l'art de la teinture végétale, l'utilisation d'anciennes teintures végétales et minérales pour produire des teintes douces du désert. Les tapis Wide Ruins sont généralement finement tissés et détaillés, souvent avec un motif de ceinture de cérémonie incorporé dans le motif.
