Andrew Lee Lovato was born on January 21, 1988. He is part of the Southwest Wolf Clan of the Santo Domingo (Kewa) tribe. As is their tradition, he was named by his godparents. Andrew is the youngest of seven children, three boys and four girls born to award-winning artist, Ray Lovato and Peregrina (Peggy) Lovato.
Andrew has been working with his dad making jewelry since he was in the 8th grade. He started entering shows while he attended Bernalillo High School. In 2002 he won his first of many awards as a youth, with 1st place for his necklace.
After high school he went to a vocational school in Phoenix. He earned his degree in automotive science, but his home and community of the Santo Domingo Pueblo called him back to New Mexico.
He has loved helping his dad and enjoys making the tab earrings with natural turquoise and cutting stones for necklaces. In addition to bead work, Andrew has recently branched out into silver work. He uses the stone pieces that break from the necklace beads to create beautiful chip inlay designs, all with natural turquoise, coral, and some black coral. Creating these designs has been a way to incorporate his other artistic talents of drawing and painting into jewelry.
In addition to making jewelry, Andrew works hard taking care of the horses, cattle, and the farm. He grows alfalfa for the livestock, as well as corn, melons and chiles.
Andrew is a talented artist with a big heart, and he has a very bright future.
