The Kópavi Collection: A Hopi Legacy

The Kópavi Collection represents one of the most extraordinary gatherings of Hopi jewelry ever assembled. Founded in Sedona in 1976, Kópavi International was a haven for groundbreaking Hopi artistry. The collection spans decades of collaboration between respected Hopi silversmiths and gallery owners Richard Mehagian and Margo Dove, resulting in pieces that embody the spirit, symbolism, and craftsmanship of a culture deeply rooted in tradition and ceremony.

For over 50 years, Richard and Margo worked closely with Hopi artists—supplying silver, gold, turquoise, and rare gemstones while encouraging creative freedom and spiritual expression. The result was a body of work that expanded the boundaries of Hopi jewelry design while staying deeply grounded in cultural identity.

Many of the pieces in this collection were created by master jewelers such as Victor Coochwytewa, Phillip Honanie, and Michael Kabotie—artists whose work is featured in museum collections and admired by collectors around the world. Whether crafted in sterling silver or gold overlay, each piece tells a story of the Hopi people and their enduring beliefs, symbols, and traditions.

After working hand-in-hand with Hopi artists for over 50 years, Richard and Margo retired in 2025. Garland’s is honored to now serve as stewards of the Kópavi Collection—a remarkable group of pieces by some of the most important Hopi silversmiths. Previously available only within the original Kópavi gallery in Sedona, this is the first time the collection has been made available online. Garland’s is proud to share this work with a wider audience.
