The Cochiti Pueblo is located along the Rio Grande river, about 25 miles southwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Prior to Spanish contact, the Cochiti tribe divided. A portion of its people resettled southwards and built what is now known as the San Felipe pueblo. The Cochiti tribe took part in the successful pueblo revolt of 1680.
Cochiti jewelry is often heavy gauge and hand forged. Smooth polished silver and deep stamping are common characteristics. Joe H. Quintana and his son, Cippy Crazyhorse are highly noted Cochiti silversmiths.
