Cochiti Jewelry

Classic Heavy Gauge Silver...

The Cochiti Pueblo is located along the Rio Grande river, about 25 miles southwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is the northernmost Keresan Pueblo in the state. The people from Cochiti are called Kʾúutìimʾé ("People from the Mountains"). Prior to Spanish contact, the Cochiti tribe divided into two groups. A portion of its people resettled southwards and built what is now known as the San Felipe pueblo (Katishtya). The Cochiti tribe took part in the successful Pueblo Revolt of 1680 against the Spanish.

While most famously known for their beautiful pottery and drums, Cochiti jewelers have also made a significant impact on the field of Native American jewelry. Cochiti jewelry is often heavy gauge and hand forged. Smooth polished silver and deep stamping are common characteristics. Joe H. Quintana and his son, Cippy Crazyhorse are highly noted Cochiti silversmiths.
